Everyone who knows me on here, or the Cumberland Board, knows I am the first to jump those saying a reff cost them a game, because I feal teams have many chances to win besides a bad called play...
Keep that in mind, as I still say Twin Springs had other chances to win, but a blatenly horrible call put then in a spin last night that ultimately lead to their defeat, and don't get me wrong the St. Paul Deacons played one heck of a ball game...
With around 4 minutes to go in the fourth quarter, #20(shooting gaurd) for TS catches the ball on the left wing, and drives to the basket, hoping for contact or a layup, well he got the contact, but he was the only one moving, and he indeed did charge...The baseline reff placed one hand behind his head and the other hand pointed down court calling and signalling a charge...no-one argued the call or anything, TS simply set back up in the press and got ready to go...The reff tippi-toes over towards the scoring table and says "We got a charge on #40 white" [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif[/img] So Coach McCrary stands and tells the reff nearest him "hey that foul was on 20", that reff runs over to the scoring table, asks, they say yes it was on 40, he then asks the reff who called it and he says it was on 40...So coach McCrary calls a timeout, walks out towards the reff and says, 20 had the ball, was this not a charge?, the reff says "yes it was a charge", then the coach says "you have to have the ball to charge, 40 didn't touch the ball the whole possesion", the reff tells him to sit down, he isn't discussing this with him...This put a 4th foul on Estep who was the only player TS had over 6', with St. Paul having 2 over 6'6", so it pretty much changed the game...
So I guess what I wanta know from the reffs on here is this: Can you charge without having touched the ball???
